With
the new season now upon us, the first team are hoping to
build on a good season last year in which they finished
runners up in the first division. Last season was encouraging
for many reasons, firstly for the resilience of the side,
whenever we appeared in trouble someone always came to the
fore.
Last
Season the team was represented on the league top ten players
board on no fewer than five occasions. Stuart Wood finished second
in the batting averages scoring 514 runs at an average of over
45, Gary Alderson and Tim Broome finished fourth and fifth in
the rankings respectively after fine seasons with the bat.
The
Bowling department was represented well with Geoff Taggart finishing
second in the league rankings with 33 wickets at 8.14 a piece
and Chip Robson finishing fourth in the league average with 30
wickets at 10 a piece.
We
look forward to the new season with many positives, Gary Alderson
is now back bowling at full pace again and will be a welcome addition
to the bowling attack. An influx of quality new players will really
help us in our goal of beating last years second place finish.
The
way the players have responded to an elongated series of nets
was very encouraging the turnout was the best we have ever had
and the general levels of fitness of the team is well ahead of
what it was at the same stage last season.
